Q&A with Christina Liew-Newville, Program Director and Assistant Professor, MS Clinical Nutrition Program
I was drawn to HSC because of its strong commitment to building a healthier community
and its emphasis on preparing future healthcare professionals. I accepted the faculty
position here because I see HSC as a place where I can contribute meaningfully using
my skills and knowledge.
Starting out as a new faculty member at HSC, what are your goals and what do you hope
to accomplish during your time here?
My goal is to work with the Clinical Nutrition team to develop an accredited online
Clinical Nutrition Program that integrates innovative teaching strategies and online
technologies. I would like to incorporate simulation experience and interprofessional
collaboration into the program. I hope to develop an online learning community where
students could share, think critically, collaborate, and support each other. My ultimate
goal is to nurture the next generation of nutrition and dietetics leaders who show
integrity, compassion, professionalism, and cultural humility.
What is something you would like for students or fellow faculty members to know about
you?
There is a season for everything, and it is never too late to return to school. I
have had the experience of being a foreign student, a first-generation college student,
and a working parent returning to school. I enjoy guiding and mentoring students.
Students are welcome to contact me directly if they have any questions regarding their
nutrition career paths.
What are you reading, watching or listening to right now?
I like to watch historical Asian dramas, and detective shows such as NCIS, White Collars,
and Monks.
