Gifts from Donor-Advised Funds
What are the restrictions for directing a gift from a donor-advised fund to the UNT Health Foundation?
A gift directed from a donor-advised fund is subject to IRS charitable gift restrictions. Gifts that provide an incidental benefit to the donor will not be accepted. For instance, gifts from donor-advised funds may not be used to pay for tickets to a fundraising event, gala dinner, golf tournament or membership (unless the membership is fully tax deductible).
IRS restrictions also prohibit grants from donor-advised funds that will be used to pay a donor’s binding pledge. However, you may check with the organization that manages your donor-advised fund to see if they allow recurring grant recommendations to be distributed to the UNT Health Foundation on a regular schedule. This could be done monthly, quarterly, bi-annually, or annually.
Are there other ways to give from a donor-advised fund?
Many sponsoring organizations of donor-advised funds provide succession plans after the donor passes away. To recommend the UNT Health Foundation receive all or a portion of the remainder of your fund, please contact Kimberly Russell at kimberly.russell@unthealth.edu. You may need to provide the UNT Health Foundation’s information:
