Information fair, panel discussion to highlight Autism Awareness Day
UNT Health Science Center will celebrate World Autism Awareness Day on Monday by hosting a comprehensive information fair for people impacted by Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).
Representatives from Fort Worth ISD, My Health My Resources (MHMR) of Tarrant County, Autism Speaks, Easterseals North Texas and other agencies will help UNTHSC provide information on insurance, interacting with first responders, transition resources, supported employment and more.
“Whether you are someone who has just become interested in learning about autism or someone who has 35 years of experience in this community, we will have information and resources that are useful to you,” said Haylie Miller, PhD, Assistant Professor of Physical Therapy. “We hope to engage with a broad range of people.”
Dr. Miller holds grants from the National Institutes of Health and the National Science Foundation for her research investigating visuomotor integration in Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), or how people use vision to help them with balance and movement.
She also partners with the ASD community in advocacy by serving on the Board of Directors for the Intellectual Development Disabilities Council of Tarrant County and several advisory committees and boards related to sensory-friendly programming in North Texas.
