UNT Health community buzzing with excitement for Styx at Legends Benefit Concert
The countdown is on for one of Fort Worth’s most anticipated fall events, the Legends Benefit Concert, headlined this year by the iconic rock band Styx.
Presented by JPMorganChase, the concert is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Oct. 22 at Bass Performance Hall, 525 Commerce St., in downtown Fort Worth.
For fans across generations, the announcement has sparked excitement and nostalgia. Faculty and staff at UNT Health Fort Worth are among those eager to see the multi-platinum band take the stage in support of scholarships for health professions students.
“I’m beyond excited for UNT Health and Fort Worth for the upcoming Styx concert. It’s like stepping back in time,” said Dr. Frank Filipetto, professor at the Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine. “I saw them several times in the ’80s, and their shows were always unforgettable. Their music has such great emotional storytelling lyrics. Kudos to our Legends planners for bringing them to us and providing the opportunity to experience that same magic all over again. Domo arigato!”
Others echoed the thrill of seeing the band perform live.
“Styx was a lot of fun to see,” said Shannon Belden, assistant director for the Center for Academic Performance. “I was able to watch them perform at Billy Bob’s when I was in college, and they brought so much energy to the stage! This is a band who clearly knows and loves their audience and wants everyone to have a good time. I’m very excited to hear they’re performing at the Legends Benefit Concert; it’s exciting to have such an incredible, multi-platinum band helping raise funds for our university.”
For Trisha Smith, medical director of Student Health & Priority Care, the band’s appeal continues to span decades.
“Even though Styx was popular before I went to high school, my husband and I had a chance to see them in Austin a few years ago and it was a great show with songs that are still loved today,” Smith said. “We saw them again last year and their performance was equally good. I was happy to see that they are the headliners for the annual Legends Concert in Fort Worth, so of course I purchased tickets. And it’s for a good cause. My husband and I both enjoy their concerts because they don’t just sing you their songs, but they also showcase their skills at being great entertainers.”
Since its inception, the Legends Benefit Concert has raised more than $3 million for student scholarships, helping reduce financial barriers for future health care providers. The event has become a signature tradition in Fort Worth, blending world-class entertainment with community support.
This year’s concert promises to carry on that tradition — with Styx bringing its legendary sound and stage presence to benefit the next generation of health leaders.
