Emily R. Belew, MHA, LNFA
Instructor, Health Administration & Health Policy
Education & Experience:
I earned a Bachelor of Business Administration from The University of Texas at Austin
and a Master of Health Administration from UNT Health Fort Worth. I am currently a
PhD student at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro Bryan School of Business
and Economics, where I am studying organizational behavior. I formerly served as a
Licensed Nursing Facility Administrator (LNFA) for a large skilled nursing facility
and as a Practice Administrator for a midsize physician organization.
Teaching Areas & Public Health Interests:
At UNT Health, I have taught Internship I and II, Managing Across the Continuum of
Care, Health Economics, Leading People, and Introduction to Health Management and
Policy. I have enjoyed helping students identify how their prior experiences relate
to their future endeavors and how to communicate these with confidence, professionalism,
and persuasion. I also enjoy equipping students with management theory, enhancing
their critical thinking skills. Additionally, I am enthusiastic about discussing the
variety and importance of the many care environments in our complex health care system.
I am especially interested in care improvement for the geriatric population and have
previously sought to collaborate with others in UNT Health’s Geriatric Practice Leadership
Institute.
Professional Activities & Awards:
I have delivered continuing education courses for health care professionals from a
variety of settings through participation in committees spanning multiple care settings.
I am a member of the Academy of Management and the Southern Management Association,
where I engage in doctoral webinars and paper presentations. I also enjoy the scholarship
of teaching and learning and continually seek to refine both my online and in-person
teaching skills by pursuing Quality Matters certifications for my online courses and
working with UNT Health instructional designers to create unique simulations applicable
to both online and in-person courses. I am honored to have received multiple student-based
teaching awards, as well as recognition from the International Serious Play Awards
for an educational game developed in collaboration with DAI and other faculty.
Scholarly Interests:
My research interests include workplace violence, work-related psychological trauma,
employee well-being, and qualitative research methodologies. I am also interested
in the impact of Age-Friendly Health Systems and quality of life for workers in the
long-term care industry.
