CBTS Graduate Spotlight: Lindsey Lassiter, BS in Biomedical Sciences
Before Lindsey Lassiter walked the stage at commencement, her vision for her future was clear: she wanted to pursue a professional degree in the pharmacy field. Now that she has earned her BS in Biomedical Sciences at UNT Health Fort Worth, she has a strong foundation for taking the next step.
Here, Lassiter shares what drew her to the program, the mentors who helped her through it and where she’s headed next.
What inspired you to pursue your degree and why did you choose UNT Health?
I knew from a very young age I wanted to work in healthcare. I loved all things science, especially chemistry. Throughout my time working in healthcare and taking college courses, I loved learning how the human body works, how each of the systems works together, and how different types of medications affect the body.
After having some health issues that required taking multiple medications, I experienced some horrible side effects firsthand. I knew then that I wanted to pursue a professional degree in a pharmacy-related field.
I applied to the Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Sciences program at UNT Health because I knew it would take the knowledge I already had from previous courses and expand on it and give me a more well-rounded education fit for a professional program.
Was there a memorable experience that shaped your time at UNT Health?
A significant project that defined my time at UNT Health would be the Whole Health Reflection and Critique Paper for Dr. Marcel Kerr’s Psychology course. I took this course in my last semester of the program, and the timing was perfect because I was able to take everything I learned throughout my entire time here and apply it to writing this paper. This led me to earn a perfect score, so I’m pretty proud of that!
Who had an impact on your success at UNT Health?
I have two. Dr. Roxanne Zascavage and Dr. Kerr. Throughout my time in the program, I was quite sick going through various treatments and enduring more than one surgery. They were always willing to work with me on my assignments when I needed some flexibility in the schedule, or just had questions because I didn’t understand something. I truly believe it was because of them that I was able to stay in the program full-time, graduate on time and graduate with honors! I am forever grateful!
What are your plans for the future?
I’ve been accepted to the Fall 2026 Master’s in Drug Development and Discovery program at UNT Health, and my ultimate goal is to work in the lab doing pharmaceutical research with a concentration on cancer treatments.
What advice do you have for current or future UNT Health students?
Make your own coursework schedule and get your work done early in the week! Making an excel spreadsheet with every assignment and due date for the entire semester was a lifesaver. Also, as soon as the new coursework becomes available for the week, get those assignments started or completed in the first half of the week so the last half can be spent reading and studying so you aren’t cramming to get everything done in one day at the end of the week. It’s too much and too stressful. Being ahead of the game is the key to success.
