Dr. Kate Taylor is a certified family nurse practitioner with 28 years of experience in healthcare and previously served as an Army Nurse Corps officer. Her nursing background includes roles as a hospitalist and as an outpatient geriatric primary care provider. She currently serves as the assistant dean of clinical and outreach affairs for the College of Nursing and holds an assistant professor appointment, as well as an adjunct faculty role with the Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine, both at UNT Health Fort Worth.
Dr. Taylor is actively involved in professional organizations, serving as the secretary of the American Association of Colleges of Nursing’s Practice Leadership Network and as a legislative ambassador for Texas Nurse Practitioners. She is also a member of the Fort Worth Region Nurse Practitioners and serves on the board of Dementia Friendly Fort Worth.
She teaches a wide range of interprofessional learners within the university, locally, nationally, and internationally. Her clinical work centers on the Center for Older Adults House Calls program, as well as having a focus on advance care planning. Dr. Taylor also holds the Certified Professional In-Patient Safety (CPPS) credential, demonstrating her proficiency in the core standards of patient safety.
Dr. Taylor is a distinguished fellow of the National Academies of Practice, signifying her outstanding contributions to interprofessional healthcare. She was the first nurse to complete the Graduate Certificate in Academic Medicine fellowship. She has been recognized with the Tarrant Area Gerontological Society’s Mildred O. Hogstel Award and the Texas Nurse Practitioners’ Visionary Award.
