Texas Center for Patient Safety to host 2026 Patient Safety Conference at UNT Health
Texas Center for Patient Safety, formerly SaferCare Texas, at UNT Health Fort Worth
will host the 2026 Patient Safety Conference on April 2 for the second year, bringing
together healthcare professionals, educators and community stakeholders to explore
strategies for improving patient safety.
The free conference will take place from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at UNT Health’s Medical Education and Training Building, 1000 Montgomery St. A networking reception will follow from 4 to 6 p.m. Admission is free.
“Our upcoming Patient Safety Conference represents a critical opportunity to bring together healthcare professionals, educators and advocates who share a commitment to eliminating preventable harm,” said Justin Burton, director of the Texas Center for Patient Safety. “By fostering collaboration, sharing evidence-based strategies, and learning from one another, we are strengthening the culture of safety across Texas and empowering healthcare teams to deliver safer, more reliable care for every patient.”
The conference will feature keynote speaker Patricia McGaffigan, RN, MS, CPPS, president
of the Certification Board for Professionals in Patient Safety and senior advisor
for Patient and Workforce Safety at the Institute for Healthcare Improvement. She
also serves as the institute’s senior sponsor for the National Steering Committee
for Patient Safety and is a nationally recognized leader in advancing patient safety,
quality and person-centered care.
McGaffigan previously served as chief operating officer and senior vice president of safety programs at the National Patient Safety Foundation. She is a Certified Professional in Patient Safety and serves on the Joint Commission National Patient Safety Committee and the Joint Commission Journal on Quality and Patient Safety Editorial Advisory Board. She was named to Becker’s Hospital Review’s list of patient safety experts for 2023-2025.
Throughout the conference, patient safety experts, researchers, quality and safety leaders, healthcare and public health professionals, and community members will gather to discuss the latest innovations, trends and best practices designed to enhance patient care and outcomes.
Conference objectives include:
- Apply patient-centered approaches to support safety, resilience and equity in practice.
- Evaluate innovative strategies that promote safer, more reliable care across diverse healthcare environments.
- Describe evidence-based and interprofessional strategies that advance patient safety and quality care.
The conference is open to the public, with a focus on medical students, researchers, safety and quality improvement professionals, and patient safety advocates. Area residents are encouraged to attend to learn more about promoting well-being and advocating for vulnerable populations.
