Raghu Krishnamoorthy named fellow of international vision research organization

dr. krishanmoorthy with awardDr. Raghu Krishnamoorthy, professor of pharmacology and neuroscience at UNT Health Fort Worth, has been named a 2026 Gold Fellow by the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology. He earned the honor for his leadership and contributions to the Association.

“It has been a privilege and honor to be part of ARVO for 30 years and to witness the tremendous progress in vision research. I’m especially encouraged by advances in basic and clinical sciences that continue to offer hope for improved treatments for blinding diseases,” Krishnamoorthy said.

A scientist at the North Texas Eye Research Institute, Krishnamoorthy’s research explores the development of endothelin receptor antagonists as neuroprotective agents for the treatment of glaucoma. His lab team is currently testing these antagonists for their ability to promote neuroprotection following elevation of intraocular pressure. The long-term goal is to understand mechanisms by which a blockade of the endothelin receptor could promote neuroprotection and develop neuroprotective treatments for glaucoma patients.

Krishnamoorthy also serves as director of graduate traditional programs and has held various faculty positions at the College of Biomedical and Translational Sciences at UNT Health since 1994. He was recently named graduate advisor for the Visual Sciences Discipline for the college’s research-based graduate programs.

ARVO is the largest eye and vision research organization in the world, with nearly 12,000 researchers from over 60 countries in its global membership. Krishnamoorthy was honored at the ARVO 2026 annual meeting in Denver last month. As a fellow, he will now use the honorary credential FARVO.
