UNT Health College of Nursing dean elected president-elect of statewide nursing education organization

Cindy WestonCindy Weston, DNP, APRN, founding dean of the College of Nursing at UNT Health Fort Worth, has been elected president-elect of the Texas Organization for Baccalaureate and Graduate Nursing Education, a statewide organization that represents academic leaders in nursing education.

Weston will begin her two-year term as president-elect in fall 2026. She will then serve a two-year term as president from 2028 to 2030, followed by one year as past president.

TOBGNE brings together chief nurse administrators from colleges and universities across Texas that offer baccalaureate and graduate nursing programs. The organization works to strengthen collaboration among nursing leaders while supporting academic excellence and advancing nursing education statewide.

“I am honored to be elected president-elect of TOBGNE,” Weston said. “The organization’s commitment to academic leadership, faculty success and policy aligns closely with my work to build strong nursing programs and expand access to high-quality education that improves health in Texas and beyond.”

The organization serves as a unified voice for excellence in nursing education and focuses on supporting faculty success, strengthening standards for student access and retention, and participating in legislative and regulatory discussions related to nursing education.

Through collaboration among nursing schools across the state, TOBGNE also works to influence the nursing profession and improve health care outcomes for communities in Texas and beyond.

Weston said she hopes her leadership role will help elevate the visibility of UNT Health’s College of Nursing and highlight the important role nursing education plays in addressing workforce needs across the state.

UNT Health College of Nursing, which Weston helped establish as founding dean, prepares nurses to meet the evolving needs of patients and communities through innovative education and training programs.

Her election to the leadership of TOBGNE reflects UNT Health’s growing role in shaping the future of nursing education and supporting the next generation of nursing professionals in Texas.
