About the Sensory Research Institute

The Sensory Research Institute will focus on the human senses with the brain serving as the central system that integrates and interprets sensory information. By bringing together expertise from neuroscience, engineering, behavioral health and clinical research, the institute is designed to support systems-level approaches to understanding sensory function in both health and disease.

With SRI, we will map the human sensory system functions. By decoding the profound language of sound, touch and scent, we are uncovering the hidden mechanics that govern how life engages with the physical world. This institute is the newest addition to our research enterprise and is dedicated to building a new blueprint for how we measure, analyze and advance the science of human-environmental interactions. SRI is designed to work across all disciplines and research strengths at UNT Health, providing a unique vehicle for transformational discoveries.

Our Vision and Mission

Vision Statement: To become the global blueprint for understanding human senses—linking biological discovery to real-world experience and improving how people engage with the world.

Mission Statement: The Sensory Research Institute advances the science of human senses by decoding and integrating molecular discovery with clinical and translational research that improves health, restores function, and deepens our understanding of what it means to be human.
