North Texas Area Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner Consortium (NTXASC) Partners

The UNT Health College of Nursing is proud to lead a transformative initiative funded by a $1.5 million federal grant from the Health Resources and Services Administration (T9653182) to expand and strengthen the sexual assault nurse examiner workforce across North Texas.

Through the development of the North Texas Area SANE Consortium, we are bringing together partners from academia, healthcare, social services and the justice system to build a sustainable, region-wide response to sexual violence — one that centers on survivor dignity and high-quality forensic care.

Our Purpose
To unite academic institutions, crime prevention organizations, healthcare systems, and social service providers in a shared mission to increase the number of qualified sexual assault nurse examiners through NTXASC.

Our Vision
Survivors of violence in North Texas have universal access to compassionate, high-quality forensic care across systems, where they are treated with dignity, respect and empowerment.

Our Mission
To elevate the system response to violence through education, collaboration, accountability, empowerment and sustainability.

What We’re Building
This initiative is more than a grant. It’s a region-wide effort to strengthen the quality and accessibility of forensic nursing care. We are:

  • Training and mentoring the next generation of SANEs prepared to serve patients across North Texas with clinical excellence and compassion through the creation of a Community of Practice.
  • Fostering collaboration across systems to ensure coordinated, trauma-informed care for individuals impacted by violence.
  • Strengthening the regional infrastructure for SANE practice, preceptorship and long-term workforce sustainability through education, outreach and mentoring.
  • Creating enduring systems of support that respond to violence with skill, accountability and purpose.

NTXASC is a collaborative community effort to increase the number of SANEs in North Texas and improve access to forensic nurse exams, specifically in rural and medically underserved areas.

Registered nurses will learn how to provide forensic exams and high-quality trauma-informed care to sexual assault and domestic violence survivors, as well as adult and adolescent SANE training. Tarrant County College will provide supplemental bilingual education to NTXASC consortium-sponsored SANE RN trainees. Program participants will gain clinical experience at North Texas Area Community Health Centers, JPS Health Network and One Safe Place.

Registered Nurses who want to become SANEs can receive an award toward tuition for UNT Health’s RN to Bachelor of Science in Nursing, MSN in Practice Innovation, and MSN in Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitoner programs.
