CHARGE: Portfolio
CHARGE collaborators work on several projects, presentations, and publications to meet the CHARGE mission: To promote and support equitable, optimal aging through community & health alliances, research, and geriatric education (CHARGE).
- ICARE Skills Fair Pilot: Led by Dr. Diana Cervantes, this pilot study evaluated the ICARE Education and Skills Fair and found significant improvements in participants’ knowledge and perceptions related to infection prevention and control following fair participation. The results suggest that interactive, skills-based educational interventions like the ICARE fair can effectively enhance infection control competencies among healthcare providers.
- Trajectories of Falls in Older Adults: Led by Dr. Uyen-sa Nguyen, this longitudinal cohort study analyzed data from adults aged 65+ with no prior history of falls. They identified three distinct fall-risk trajectories over a 12-year period, ranging from low-stable to high-increasing fall incidence. The researchers found that fall risk varied significantly by demographic and health factors including race/ethnicity and presence of comorbid conditions highlighting the need for targeted prevention strategies to reduce falls in older adults.
