The Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine Founders’ Day celebration takes place on the first Friday of October each year to honor the founding of the school and the legacy of osteopathic medicine. This year the celebration will take place on Friday, Oct. 2, 2026, on the campus of UNT Health.

Nominations for the 2026 awards will be accepted through Tuesday, June 30. All nominees not selected will remain in the pool for continued consideration in future years. Self-nominations are welcomed. Nominations will remain confidential throughout the selection process. TCOM Founders’ Award

The TCOM Founders’ Award is presented annually to honor its founders, Dr. George J. Luibel, Dr. D. D. Beyer and Dr. Carl E. Everett. The award recognizes an individual who has advanced the tenets of the osteopathic profession and has demonstrated exceptional commitment to TCOM through achievements in teaching, research and/or service.

Eligibility Criteria: 

  • Alumni of TCOM and/or current, former, or retired faculty with more than 10 years of service to TCOM
  • Recognition by peers as an exemplary practitioner of the individual's chosen profession
  • Consistent support of TCOM through volunteer service to the school, active engagement with alumni and students and philanthropic contributions
  • Demonstrated record of mentorship, teaching and/or training of future osteopathic physicians

Mary E. Luibel Distinguished Service Award

This award recognizes an individual who has demonstrated exceptional personal commitment and long-standing dedication to the advancement of the osteopathic profession. Recipients of this award exemplify high character and integrity and live daily by the belief that service to others is life’s highest calling.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Has made meaningful contributions to advancing osteopathic medicine (clinical practice, education, research or policy)
  • Demonstrates leadership that has influenced the profession at the local, state or national level
  • Supports the growth and visibility of osteopathic principles and practice
