The Occupational_Safety_Plan_Oct_2025_EHS-100-01 provides guidance and information on how to access occupational health program services.

The Indoor Air Quality Management Plan EHS-100-01 provides information on how EHS manage the indoor air quality at UNT Health.

Weekend and After Business Hours:

Go to the emergency room of your choice.

Exposure / Incident Plan

The following are steps to be taken in the event of:

  • BLOODBORNE PATHOGEN EXPOSURE
  • BIOHAZARD/ CHEMICAL EXPOSURE
  • INJURY

I. For exposure to human blood, bodily fluids

  1. Encourage the wound to bleed under running water for 15 seconds.
  2. Clean exposed area with soap and water for at least 15 minutes.
  3. If mucous membranes exposed to fluid, flush with water or saline for at least 15 minutes.
  4. If the source patient is known and present, request the patient allow a blood draw for testing.
  5. For Students working in a clinical environment
    • Notify instructor / clinic supervisor / hospital supervisor to report injury.
    • As soon as possible, notify Preceptor and/or UNT Health Program Director in accordance with program’s guidance and expectations.
  • If on clinical rotation at UNT Health contact UNT Health Clinical Practice Group Student Health Clinic at 817-735-5051
  • If on clinical rotation, follow rotation site’s protocols.
  • If clinical rotation site is in the DFW area and does not have a protocol, contact UNT Health Clinical Practice Group Student Health Clinic at 817-735-5051.
  • If at a clinical rotation site outside the DFW area that does not have a protocol, go to the nearest Emergency Room or Urgent Care Center.
  • If you are required to pay for services, use your personal health insurance.
  • Bills and claims associated with bloodborn pathogen exposures should be sent to Health@unthealth.edu for reimbursement and payment.
  • All student bloodborne pathogen exposures should be reported via the UNT Health Student BBP Student injury report found on UNT Health Student Health Clinic webpage.
  • Initial and Follow-up care, if necessary, should be provided by the same facility, when possible.
  1. For Faculty and Staff working in a clinic at UNT Health
    • Notify Supervisor/EHS
    • contact UNT Health Clinical Practice Group Student Health Clinic at 817-735-5051
    • All Staff, Faculty injury the Employee Injury Report must be completed by the supervisor as soon as possible after the injury occurred.
    • Initial and Follow-up care, if necessary, should be provided by the same facility, when possible.
  1. For Faculty and staff not working in a clinic at UNT Health, follow the exposure plan for biological agent listed in section II.

 

II. For all physical injuries, exposure to infectious agents including Bloodborne pathogens and chemicals at UNT Health (Staff, Faculty, Student)

  1. For a life-threatening emergency, call 9-1-1, campus police or seek medical treatment at the nearest Emergency Room.
  2. For all other injuries, perform first aid response as needed as described in the Safety Manuals.
  3. Notify supervisor and EHS to report injury
  4. Even if medical treatment is declined at the time of the incident the Employee Injury Report for Faculty and Staff can be found on the EHS workers’ compensation webpage or Student Injury report  for Students can be found on the  UNT Health Student Health Clinic webpage, must be completed by the supervisor as soon as possible after the injury occurred.
  5. If medical treatment is needed at the time of the injury:
    1. During Business Hours – go to the closest Concentra or CareNow facility.
    2. Weekend and After Business Hours – Please go to the nearest emergency room of your choice if injured on the weekend or after hours.
    3. For biological or chemical exposures, a copy of the SDS (Safety Data Sheet) or PSDS (Pathogen Safety Data Sheet) and antibiotic-resistant profile of agents, if known, should be taken to the medical facility.
  6. If medical treatment is needed at a later date as a result of the incident:
    1. Email RMS@unt.edu to inform them of the medical visit.
    2. During Business Hours – go to the closest Concentra or CareNow facility.
    3. Weekend and After Business Hours – Please go to the nearest emergency room of your choice if injured on the weekend or after hours.
    4. For biological or chemical exposures, a copy of the SDS (Safety Data Sheet) or PSDS (Pathogen Safety Data Sheet) and antibiotic-resistant profile of agents, if known, should be taken to the medical facility.
