Emma Brilleslyper
Meet Emma Brilleslyper! She is a TCOM/CPH student who tutors for didactic TCOM courses.
Favorite Place to Study?
Coffee shops all day every day. I got the Fort Worth Coffee Passport for 2025 and have had so much fun trying out the various coffee shops in town.
What do you do to decompress?
I love to read. Mostly fiction, and I have a special fondness for historical fiction. I just finished "The Nightingale" and I highly recommend!
Biggest piece of study advice for new students?
Ask for help to learn how to get the most out of your study time! You can't study until 3 a.m. every day and expect to maintain your academic performance and your mental health. It's important to figure out how to prioritize high yield material to optimize the time you do spend studying. Give yourself a cut off time. For me, I always say that nothing good happens after 10 p.m. and that's when I put the flashcard or lectures or practice questions down for the day.
Most rewarding aspect of being a tutor?
Watching my peers gain confidence in themselves as students and future doctors. Medical school can be a huge shock and impostor syndrome is a powerful naysayer, but all of them were accepted to TCOM for a reason.
Tell us a fun fact about yourself!
I am originally from Colorado, and I majored in French in college!
How has your experience as a tutor enhanced your understanding of course material?
I am a big believer that the best way to learn something is to teach it! Only when you can explain the same topic in two, three or four different ways do you really have it mastered. I also enjoy when my peers ask questions I haven't thought of or suggest things I wouldn't have considered. We can have fun conversations about pharmacology and physiology at times like that and learn from each other!
