Eligibility requirements

Applicants must be US Citizens or Permanent Residents due to nursing licensure requirements. UNT Health cannot issue visas for College of Nursing at this time.

  • RN licensure (Submitted as part of NursingCAS) in a state or region that is approved through the National Council of State Boards of Nursing or evidence of an unencumbered RN licensure prior to graduation.
  • Completion of or enrollment in an associate degree in nursing (ADN, ASN) or diploma program from a regionally accredited institution.
  • Provisional or Conditional Admission may be granted in the following conditions:
    • Individuals who are actively enrolled in an ADN (Associate Degree in Nursing) or diploma program from a regionally accredited institution and are in good standing may receive provisional/conditional admissions to this program
    • Provisionally admitted students may enroll in up to six semester credit hours (SCH) in the RN to BSN program before completing ADN or diploma program and presenting evidence of passing the National Council Licensure Examination-Registered Nurse (NCLEX-RN). However, provisionally admitted students will not progress to any other BSN program courses within the College of Nursing without first passing the NCLEX-RN and obtaining an active, unencumbered registered nurse (RN) license in a state or region that is approved through the National Council of State Boards of Nursing.
  • Completion of RN to BSN prerequisite courses with a C or better prior to the start of the RN to BSN program.
  • Upon licensure as a registered nurse (and meeting all the other admission requirements), the student will receive unconditional admission to proceed in the program.
  • Out of state applications will be considered on a case-by-case basis and in accordance with the Board of Nursing regulations.

Application requirements

  • A minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 in all prerequisite courses.
  • Favorable Criminal Background Check.
  • Negative Drug Screening. Accepted students are responsible for completing the drug screening and any associated financial costs.
  • Holistic Admission Assessment completion.
  • All applicants are required to submit two former faculty or employer references. (Submitted as part of NursingCAS)
  • Professional resume or Curriculum vitae (CV) (Submitted as part of NursingCAS).
  • Official transcripts (Unofficial not accepted) uploaded to NursingCAS.

Fall deadlines

Entry 2026 (application open August 7th, 2025):

Your application must be submitted by 10:59 pm Central on June 1, 2026.

Supplemental materials must be submitted by 10:59 pm on June 15, 2026.

These include letters of recommendation, transcripts, proof of RN licensure, proof of ADN or Nursing diploma program, resume or CV, and personal essays.

Items must be submitted to NursingCAS unless otherwise noted.

Your application must be Verified by the deadline for transcripts and other required items. Verified means that NursingCAS has ensured that all your coursework was entered correctly and consistently, which allows us to fairly evaluate your academic history. Because this process takes time, you should plan to have transcripts submitted as soon as possible in the application process.

You should complete all prerequisite coursework by August 1, 2026 to ensure transcripts can be submitted to Admissions prior to the start of the program.

Admitted students will need to submit official transcripts for any coursework not completed at the time of application. Transcripts may be submitted to NursingCAS as late as August 1, 2026 to confirm final grades and degrees earned. Final transcripts may also be sent to processing@unthealth.edu
