The Annual Promotion and Tenure (P&T) Review Process is initiated by the Provost in late summer, prior to the beginning of the fiscal year. Deans and Department Chairs receive official notification, which includes detailed process instructions and the Promotion and Tenure Process Timeline. This timeline must be followed throughout the review cycle.

After all required internal discussions between faculty members and their Department Chair have been completed, the Department Chair must submit the names of all faculty candidates for promotion and/or tenure to the Chairperson of the appropriate Promotion and Tenure Committee.

  • Submission Window: August 1–14
  • Notification Requirement: Please copy the Office of Faculty Affairs, when submitting faculty names to the P&T Committee Chairperson.

Periodic Peer Review (PPR) - According to Section 51.942 of the Texas Education Code each tenured faculty shall receive a comprehensive performance peer evaluation by department and the college promotion and tenure committees no less often than once every six (6) years following the last tenure, promotion, or post-tenure performance.

Regents Professors - recognizes excellence in the faculty member’s field of study and outstanding contributions in teaching, scholarship and service. The department chair will make nominations to the appropriate promotion and tenure committee.  Only the Board of Regents may award the designation of Regents Professor. Regents applications use the Promotion and Tenure timeline.
