Primary Care Pathway Program
TCOM-Rural Osteopathic Medical Education Pathway Programs
The TCOM-Rural Osteopathic Medical Education (ROME) Pathway Programs are designed to nurture local students to become local doctors for rural, medically underserved, and health profession shortage areas in Texas. According to data from Texas 2036 and the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS), 224 out of 254 Texas counties have health care shortages of primary care providers.
The Primary Care Pathway Program provides students with the opportunity to complete medical school in a seven-year “2+1+4” plan.
The ROME program at UNT Health is an innovative educational program designed to prepare students for life and practice in a rural and underserved community. The curriculum includes academic activities and clinical experiences beginning the second semester of year one and continuing throughout all four years of predoctoral medical education.
TCOM has two pathway programs for Midland College and Weatherford College. You can learn more about each pathway program below.
