AIGEN-UNT Health RFC

The Research Financial Compliance (RFC) team plays a vital role in supporting UNT Health’s research mission by ensuring that all sponsored research activities are conducted with the highest standards of financial integrity and in full compliance with applicable rules and regulations. By acting as a safeguard for the university, the team helps researchers and administrators manage research funds responsibly and avoid costly errors or penalties from sponsors.

The RFC Team interprets specific requirements set by a funding agency (whether federal, state or private) on a contract or research grant, offering expert guidance so that financial practices match both institutional policies and sponsor expectations. This support is essential for building trust with funding partners and maintaining UNT Health’s reputation as a reliable and ethical research institution.

Beyond interpretation, the Research Financial Compliance team:

  • helps coordinate internal and external research audits, serving as a central point of contact when ever the university’s sponsored research finances are reviewed,
  • manages key systems such as the Effort Reporting System (ECC) which tracks and certifies how faculty and staff dedicate time to sponsored projects, an important compliance requirement for many grants
  • offers training, workshops and ongoing support tailored to the complexities of sponsored research compliance,
  • oversees processes like subrecipient invoicing and monitoring, ensuring accuracy and adherence to both institutional and sponsor rules

While researchers focus on discovery and innovation, the Research Financial Compliance department makes sure the financial side of research stays transparent, accountable and compliant with all expectations.

The Research Financial Compliance team is responsible for ensuring the university adheres to sponsor regulations to avoid missteps that could result in fines for the university. The team helps develop, implement, maintain and support financial compliance of sponsored Research.

The Research Financial Compliance (RFC) Team oversees the subrecipient invoicing and monitoring process to ensure accuracy, timeliness and compliance with institutional and sponsor requirements, as well as the Effort Reporting System (ECC) to manage time and effort.
